Our certified pediatric dentist and his staff are ready to provide emergency dental care. Here are a few common emergencies and how to handle them if they arise.

Knocked Out Permanent Tooth

A knocked-out tooth can be frightening, but it may be possible to save your child’s tooth. Once you find the tooth, pick it up by the crown (avoid the roots) and clean it with warm water to remove any grime or debris. Try not to handle the tooth as much as possible. Do your best to keep the tooth moist by soaking it in milk or water. Call our office to set up an emergency dental care appointment immediately.

Chipped or Broken Tooth

If your child chips or breaks a tooth, clean the area gently with warm water to remove any debris. Gather any tooth fragments and seek immediate emergency dental care by calling our office.

Chipped Or Broken Tooth

Toothaches are common and can start for many reasons. Possible causes include an infection, impact, and new teeth break through the surface of the gums. Even a small piece of food stuck between the teeth can cause tooth pain. Help your child with their brushing and flossing to see if there is anything visible causing the toothache. Check your child’s mouth for any swelling and for signs of infection, including hot and cold sensitivity, painful chewing, or bleeding. If you suspect that your child may have an infection, please contact our office to set up an appointment as soon as possible.

Broken Braces and Wires

Do not remove any broken dental devices unless they are loose enough to be removed easily. If it is stuck or uncomfortable, cover any sharp points with wax or gauze until your child sees the dentist. If there is a wire caught in the gums, cheek, or tongue; contact our office immediately.
