Sedation Dentistry For Kids
Sedation Dentistry For Kids. Our goal is to make every child’s dental experience fun, rewarding, and positive. Kids 4 Ever Pediatric Dentistry. Our team wants to make sure that each and every child leaves our office feeling like they have learned more about their teeth and oral hygiene while spending a wonderful time with us.
Sedation dentistry provides additional comfort and relaxation during a child’s dental treatment. Sedation is often used for long and extensive procedures, such as fillings, extractions, crowns, or root canals. But, at Kids 4 Ever Pediatric Dentistry, we do not limit sedation dentistry to those procedures. Sedation is also available for patients who have anxiety during their visits to our family dental clinic or for our young patients who have difficulties sitting still. If your children have a low pain tolerance or a strong gag reflex, sedation dentistry may be something to consider to make their visit to the pediatric dentist more pleasant.
We offer the following sedation dentistry services for our patients:
Most often referred to as “laughing gas,” this type of sedation is used in pediatric dentistry to reduce anxiety and get favorable treatment outcomes in adults and children of all ages. This gas is a mild sedative that is administered with a mixture of oxygen. While under the influence of nitrous oxide, patients are still conscious and can communicate with staff during their procedure. After the procedure, the gas is turned off and oxygen is administered for several minutes to flush out any remaining nitrous and the effects wear off quickly. Your children’s dentist will advise you of any potential side effects and post-treatment needs.
This is an office procedure offered by Kids 4 Ever Pediatric Dentistry to help anxious children relax during their dental visit. Usually, this is a pill that is taken about an hour before the procedure. Children are completely conscious and responsive during their treatment.
This is an in-office procedure done by the anesthesiologist to produce deep conscious sedation. This type of sedation is often administered through an IV and is constantly monitored. The pediatric dentist then completes the treatment while the child is under sedation.
This procedure is rarely needed. It is done in a hospital operating room by an anesthesiologist. If under general anesthesia, the patient will not easily awaken until the effects of the anesthesia wears off, allowing the pediatric dentist to complete the treatment while the child is unconscious.
